Crisis Line/Victim Advocate: Volunteers respond to incoming crisis calls by providing crisis intervention, general support, information, resource referrals, and occasional accompaniment, providing advocacy to victims of both domestic violence and sexual abuse. Volunteers are asked to sign up for 2 to 4 on-call shifts per month, on evenings and/or weekends. The length of commitment is 6 months starting after completion of the 25 hours of required training.

Shelter Volunteers: Volunteers at The Garden Place shelter have the opportunity to provide a number of services assisting staff with the daily operations of the shelter. Shelter volunteers are needed to provide general support and listening to shelter residents. The Garden Place is also looking for bilingual volunteers to provide support to Spanish-speaking residents. Training and length of commitment is variable, depending on the areas of volunteer interest.

Second Bloom Thrift Shop: Volunteers are needed at our new upscale thrift shop, to assist with the daily operations of a retail store. Volunteers help with tagging, replenishing stock, straightening merchandise and maintaining the overall appearance of the store. The volunteer’s main duty is to provide quality customer service. The store is run completely by volunteers, with all the proceeds going to benefit the programs & services of our agency. Volunteers receive an orientation and on-the-job training. Commitment is 6 hours per month, for 6 months.

Child Care: Volunteers are needed to provide childcare during support groups. Childcare is provided at the Pittsboro United Methodist Church and at The Garden Place shelter while mothers attend support groups at either FVRC or the shelter. We offer groups on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. We also need childcare on Thursday evenings at the Coalition for Family Peace office in Siler City. Training and level/length of commitment will vary depending on the volunteer’s availability, the current status of the groups, and the needs of the shelter.

Office Volunteer: Volunteers provide support to office staff through greeting people as they come into FVRC, answering telephones and directing calls. Volunteers may also assist in office tasks, such as help with mailings, basic filing, data entry and compiling of basic agency statistics, particularly for the shelter. Office volunteers receive an orientation and on the job training. Length of commitment is usually 6 months, but can vary depending on availability.

Described above are some of the many opportunities we have available here at Family Violence & Rape Crisis Services. Additionally, we need yard work/maintenance volunteers, and special events volunteers.
