Displaced Homemaker

New Beginnings, FVRC's displaced homemaker services, is a program for persons, most often women, who have spent time as the primary homemaker for the family and have lost means of support, be it through divorce, death, loss of child support or benefits with the Department of Social Services. New Beginnings recipients are usually underemployed and need to gain additional skills or support in order to become self-sufficient in the work place. Our services focus on education, job training and skill building. We work with each person to build plans and set goals. We also assist with applying for other scholarships. While recipients do not have to be victims of domestic violence to use New Beginnings, many of whom we serve are survivors. We strive to help our clients move from 'victims' to 'survivors' to 'thrivors,' and displaced homemaker assistance is key in the last step.
