About Us

FVRC was founded in 1982 to provide services to battered women and sexual assault victims in Chatham County, North Carolina. The agency has grown to include: offices in Pittsboro and Siler City; a shelter for victims and their children; Second Bloom, our thrift boutique; and the Coalition for Family Peace, Chatham County’s coordinated community response to domestic and sexual violence.

• FVRC serves on average 800 victims per year.
• School-based prevention programs reach approximately 2,250 Chatham County students each year.
• Garden Place Shelter provided more than 2,500 nights of refuge last year, housing an average of 7 women and children per night.

We believe that domestic violence and sexual assault can only be stopped through a three-pronged approach.

• Intervention: working with victims to promote healing and with perpetrators to promote change
• Advocacy: helping systems work effectively to increase safety for victims and hold perpetrators accountable
• Prevention: creating a community that supports peaceful families and healthy relationships
