The Pittsboro Needle Crafters raffled off their beautiful “Crazy Quilt” on Sunday of the Pittsboro Christmas Parade after selling nearly $2,250 worth of tickets. All proceeds were donated to Family Violence & Rape Crisis Services. The ladies of the quilting group spent three months selling tickets around Chatham County at art walks, First Sundays and local events. Second Bloom manager, Nan Baldauf, pulled the winning ticket with eyes closed at 3 p.m. Congratulations to Alexis Pojafsky on the win!

Counseling Room2

The branch manager, tellers and employees at the Powell Place BB&T have a whole host of hidden talents. They’re also painters, interior decorators, and handymen and women.

FVRC was fortunate to be chosen for BB&T’s 2009 Light House Project. Branch Manager Katie Coleman and Pamela Johnson lead a team of about fifteen as they transformed the counseling room at FVRC’s Pittsboro office, the Blue House, into a vibrant space for healing and creativity.

“Our biggest challenge was making this room both a place where adults can talk without feeling like they’re in a playroom, and a place where kids can play,” said Charleen Enns, FVRC Therapist. “BB&T gave us a beautiful space that doesn’t feel too young, but is still perfect for play-therapy that our kids need.”

The room is divided into two main sections that reflect its uses. The adult counseling section is anchored by a cozy couch and semi-circle of chairs. The kids’ area is an invitation to play with a chalk board, shelves of art supplies and books, a doll house and sandbox.

The BB&T team chose a fresh green paint for the walls and abstractCounseling Room art to offset any playroom feel. They also added ample storage including a new armoire for art supplies, a trunk and a coffee table that doubles as a chest, too. While BB&T added more art supplies to the FVRC counseling collection, the donated storage space makes the room less cluttered and much more organized.

A dedicated Light House team spent most of an evening painting and organizing the new space, some even staying until 10 p.m.

Performing in front of a fantastic Pittsboro Christmas Parade crowd, W.I.N.G.s women danced through the street on a chilly Sunday afternoon. The Women In Nice Gowns went all out with floor-length dresses, jingle-bell headbands, feather boas, and all things “froofy.” They marched through Pittsboro for a great cause, handing out heart-shaped reminders of Family Violence & Rape Crisis Services hotline for crisis intervention.
